On May 30, 2025, Naval Air Station (NAS) Key West will host a change of command ceremony at Boca Chica Field, where Capt. Colin Thompson will relieve Capt. Elizabeth “Beth” Regoli as the commanding officer. This event will also mark Capt. Regoli’s retirement after 26 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Navy.

Capt. Beth Regoli: A Trailblazing Career

Capt. Regoli, a native of San Jose, California, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. She furthered her education with a Master of Science in Global Leadership from the University of San Diego and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College University of San Diego.

As a career naval aviator, Capt. Regoli's operational assignments included tours with Patrol Squadron (VP) 40, service as Flag Lieutenant for Commander, Carrier Strike Group THREE aboard the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), Department Head with Special Projects Patrol Squadron (VPU) 1, and Commanding Officer of VP-9 “Golden Eagles.” Ashore, she served as an instructor with Training Squadron (VT) 27, Naval Military Aide to Vice President Joseph R. Biden, and as Battalion Officer and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program Manager at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Capt. Regoli assumed command of NAS Key West in May 2022, becoming the second woman to lead the installation. During her tenure, she navigated challenges such as housing shortages exacerbated by the demolition of 166 units at Sigsbee Park and the closure of two barracks buildings. She worked closely with the Public Private Venture office to find solutions for upgrading and renovating homes for sailors and their families Florida Keys Weekly Newspapers.

In response to Hurricane Ian in September 2022, Capt. Regoli ordered a mandatory evacuation of residents in low-lying areas of Sigsbee Park and Truman Annexes. She ensured that evacuees were cared for by coordinating with local ombudsmen to provide meals and accommodations at Navy Gateway Inns and Suites.

Capt. Colin Thompson: Incoming Commanding Officer

Capt. Colin Thompson will assume command following his role as the Career Progression Division Director at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee. His extensive experience in personnel management and career development positions him well to lead NAS Key West into its next chapter.

The change of command ceremony will be held on May 30, 2025, at Boca Chica Field, NAS Key West. The event will honor Capt. Regoli's 26 years of service and welcome Capt. Thompson as the new commanding officer.
